Scripture Anchor
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6, NIV)
The Parenting Challenge
In today’s digital age, parents face the daunting challenge of navigating the complex landscape of technology and its impact on children. With screens becoming an integral part of daily life, it is essential for parents to understand both the benefits and the potential pitfalls that technology presents to their kids.
Jesus Centred Perspective
As Christian parents, we are called to guide our children in all aspects of life, including their engagement with technology. Jesus taught us the importance of being in the world but not of it (John 17:14-16). This means we should encourage our children to use technology as a tool for good, fostering connections and learning while also being mindful of its distractions and dangers.
We can model a Christ-centered approach by integrating faith into our family’s technology use. This includes setting boundaries, discussing online behavior, and ensuring that our children’s digital interactions reflect the love and values of Jesus. By doing so, we can help our kids develop discernment and a strong moral compass in their online lives.
Practical Steps for This Week
- Set specific screen time limits for your children.
- Encourage tech-free family meals to foster communication.
- Engage in discussions about online content and its impact.
- Introduce faith-based apps or programs that promote spiritual growth.
- Model healthy technology use by limiting your own screen time.
- Pray together as a family about technology use and its effects.
A Prayer for Parents
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of technology and the opportunities it provides. Help us to guide our children wisely in their use of these tools. Grant us the wisdom to set boundaries and the grace to model a Christ-centered approach in our own lives. May our families grow closer to You and to each other through our interactions with technology. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
